CTYO Elementary Strings (CTYO ES) is a music education outreach program of Cross Timbers Youth Orchestra, designed for young people throughout the North Texas area. CTYO ES is composed of two programs (see details below), one focused on exposing youngsters to the wonderful world of string instruments, the other focused on allowing youngsters (of all ages) to explore their creative potential as players of string instruments. These programs are open to young people attending public, private and home schools in our area.

The CTYO ES EXPOSITION - Strings in Your School & The Fiddle Mobile
This is a program designed to EXPOSE the wonder and creative potential of string instruments to students in elementary schools throughout North Texas. The Fiddle Mobile travels to your school, and… out pops the Fiddle Lady, with instruments, games, a rich educational program, and loads of fun to provide an on-site, in-school, music education and enrichment presentation. This program has been developed in consultation with elementary music specialists, arts administrators, and music and string pedagogy experts. You may contact the CTYO office for more information on the program and how to schedule a visit from the Fiddle Mobile for your school. Please find more detailed information via the "Applications and Forms" link on the left side of this page.

The CTYO ES EXPLORATION - Recreational Classes
This program is an opportunity for young and old "first-time" players to EXPLORE the rewards and challenges of learning a string instrument. Introductory classes, 8-weeks in duration, provide beginners everything they need in order to EXPLORE their own potential as a future string player. Classes are offered in the Fall and Spring semesters and built in three options: Let's Play Violin for K-3rd grade, Let's Play Violin or Cello for 4-5th grades, and Let's Play Violin or Cello for adults! Seasoned, high-quality instructors guide you through the basics, and your music, materials and instrument (!) are provided as part of your registration fee. Based on the concept of play ("recreation"), these classes are being offered through the Parks & Recreation Department of McKinney and employ enjoyment and entertainment toward helping you find your drive to play and study music and string instruments. Contact McKinney's Parks and Recreation Department for information on the schedule, costs, and registration processes.

Open to all young people and their families, and serving cities and towns in Collin and surrounding North Texas counties, CTYO is neither an alternative to nor a substitute for school music programs. CTYO expects that student participants will be enrolled in the appropriate and applicable music and arts programs in their schools, and offers a variety of small and large orchestral and educational programs to support and supplement the ideal learning that occurs through in-school arts education.
