Have you finally had enough of paying overpriced energy costs? Thanks to the skyrocketing costs of oil and gas many homeowners are turning to an old fashioned wood stove to heat their homes rather than paying another cent to oil companies that make their profit by ripping off their customers. As a result the demand for modern wood burning stoves has been growing for years, giving many homes a cheaper and greener source of heat than traditional gas furnaces can offer.
A big part of the attraction to buying wood stoves has to do with the many benefits they offer. For starters, a wood stove is attractive to the environmentally conscious because burning wood is carbon neutral. Not only are you using a renewable resource, but it produces far fewer harmful emissions. In fact, many newer stove models come with built-in cleanburn systems to recycle those emissions back into the fire, using them to fuel even more heat. Modern wood stoves are also much more energy efficient: an open fireplace is considered to be roughly 20% efficient or less, but modern stoves are often over 80% energy efficient.
However, the biggest reason so many people are turning to wood stoves is that they are simply far, far less expensive than a gas powered furnace. Wood stoves can be fueled by either logs, wood pellets made from sawdust, or both. These forms of fuel are extremely inexpensive and easily accessible, even to people in the city. In fact, many people have been able to operate their stoves without paying anything for their fuel by either picking up dead wood around their homes or by using untreated wood pallets recovered from local businesses. These businesses often pay someone else to collect their pallets, so it’s a win/win situation for you both! It is hard to argue with free!
