CTYO's Studio Program provides the opportunity for string players from 10-18 years of age with at least one year of playing experience to work in a small ensemble music-making, music-learning setting with peers and at their own stage of development and with expert guidance. The goals of the program are:
  • To enrich the music learning and development of students through small ensemble interactions
  • To directly support the importance of private study for the development of young musicians
  • To richly supplement in-school music training that students encounter in other educational settings
  • To provide a musical "bridge" for the experience of musicians moving to and from large ensemble and orchestral experiences
  • To provide a setting that encourages the development of values for friendship, fun, cooperation and responsibility amongst young people involved in music study

Studio Program
CTYO's Studio Program
The program operates through two terms (Fall and Winter/Spring), each 9 weeks in length. Students are grouped according to experience and ability so that formed small ensembles will be able to work together successfully while preparing selections and executing the basics of small ensemble and chamber music collaboration. Formed groups meet once during each of these nine weeks, guided by a qualified coach/teacher, for studio sessions held at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in CTYO's office studio - Suite 317 - on Monday or Tuesday evenings throughout the term. Individual assignments and schedules will be arranged by CTYO's Programs Coordinator. Please find further details on the Studio Program Application.

Because the program is focused on providing students with the opportunity to develop as young musicians, all students enrolled must have a private lesson teacher with whom they are currently studying, and must remain enrolled in private lesson throughout their involvement in the Studio Program. Arranging for private lessons is the responsibility of the student and her/his family, but CTYO can assist in directing students toward a private lesson teacher and can also help students in need find financial aid to support private study. Aligned with the goals of the program, CTYO also welcomes students and families to make a special request to be placed in groups with their friends and closest colleagues, and will honor such requests whenever possible.

Open to all young people and their families, and serving cities and towns in Collin and surrounding North Texas counties, CTYO is neither an alternative to nor a substitute for school music programs. CTYO expects that student participants will be enrolled in the appropriate and applicable music and arts programs in their schools, and offers a variety of small and large orchestral and educational programs to support and supplement the ideal learning that occurs through in-school arts education.
